Every pending state in fintech is a suspension. The user has done something — submitted documents, initiated a transfer, applied for a product — and now they're waiting for an answer they care about. And in the space between 'processing' and 'here's your answer', the design either manages their anxiety or amplifies it.
Most pending states are designed for the system's perspective: "we're processing your request." But the user's perspective is entirely different: "I don't know what's happening, I don't know when it will end, I don't know if this is normal, and I can't do anything about it."
That's the design problem this lesson addresses — not how to build a spinner, but how to design the entire uncertainty experience from the moment processing begins to the moment the outcome is delivered.
Five psychology principles. Five pending state types with specific design requirements. A duration-based design framework. Seven screens to audit. And the Module 5 capstone.
Let's start with the psychology — because that's what drives every design decision in this lesson.
